By weight, the world’s mammal population is only 4% in the wild while the rest of the 96% is dominated by humans and their livestock creating a dangerous ecosystem imbalance. At present, only 14.9% of the land surface and 7.3% of the oceans are under a protected category and this needs to change quickly to protect our biodiversity.⁠

During the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, governments will prepare implementation strategies and actions required to protect our natural areas. World leaders will have an opportunity to conserve our remaining wild places by committing to protecting 30% of our planet by 2030 and dedicating sufficient funding to manage protected areas effectively.
