What could our cities look like instead? National Park Cities, World Urban Parks and WATG Designs have been reimagining our city streets and these are looking pretty amazing to us!
Road transport (~14%) far outweighs aviation (~2%) in terms of global emissions. In fact, 80% of the rise in transport emissions from 1970-2010 was from road vehicles. Our urban planning has been fairly poor in many places across the world and we can design our communities so much better for access to transport, cycling, walking, and neighborhood facilities (independent cafes, parks, food markets etc) within a short distance.
As a response to Covid, Milan is putting in place a plan to reclaim a portion of streets permanently after this crisis (the Strade Aperte plan). Is your region doing anything?
