The African nation of Burundi comes top of the list as one of the world’s most food-insecure countries – and one of the poorest. Burundi and other countries are really feeling the impacts of climate change on their food production systems but Burundi’s contribution to global heating is absolutely tiny. In fact, the annual carbon emissions of one Briton is equal to the CO2 produced by over 200 Burundians.
This is one of the biggest problems with climate change and why we have the climate justice movement. The effects of the climate crisis are lopsided and causing nations who contributed least to the problem to suffer most. This isn’t something that’s going to happen. It’s already happening. It will only get worse on the path we’re on.
