France has declared a war on wasted food. Food waste is a huge, and expensive, global issue. France was the first country to introduce specific food waste legislation, and now loses only 1.8% of its total food production each year – less than any other country (so the delicious crepes and croissants are saved!). It plans to cut this in half by 2025. Before a ban on food waste came into place in 2016, 7.1 million tonnes was wasted each year.
