Hummingbirds

Isn’t nature beautiful? Fast, intelligent and tiny – hummingbirds are incredible creatures. Among the smallest of all birds – they weigh about as much as three almonds! Hummingbirds can flap their wings up to 100 times a second are the only birds that can sustain hovering, for minutes if necessary. They do this by rotating their wings in a figure 8 motion and hover in mid-air to drink nectar from flowers. They are extremely speedy – a hummingbird’s maximum forward flight speed is 30 miles hour and they can reach up to 60 miles/hour in a dive!
