Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption gets lost or wasted every year

Food waste is a huge, global and expensive issue! Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption gets lost or wasted every year – thats around 1.3 billion tonnes of food. If one quarter of the food currently lost or wasted could be saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people.

Fruits and vegetables have the highest wastage rates of any food. One way to keep these lasting longer is putting them in cold water storage. We fill up our crisper or a container with water and throw in crunchy vegetables like carrot or celery, and vegetables that wilt easily like spinach. Another easy way to prevent food waste is shopping with a plan. Coming up with a weekly menu will help save food and your money.
