Rwanda banned plastic bags in 2008. Its law prohibits the manufacture, use, import and sale of plastic bags. Our founder Lis travelled through Rwanda in 2009 and noticed how unbelievably clean and green the country was. Turns out it’s due to Umuganda Day which happens once a month. People come together to keep the country clean. Littering is unacceptable and plastic bags are illegal and confiscated at the point of entry into Rwanda.
