KeepCup

Launched in 2009, KeepCup has revolutionised the way consumers drink their takeaway espresso by introducing the world’s first barista standard reusable cup, designed for drinking pleasure. With a mission to ensure the world no longer wants, needs or uses single-use cups, KeepCup is now sold in 76 countries, resulting in an estimated 8 billion disposables diverted from landfill every year.

KeepCup is in business for better. As a founding B Corporation member, we are committed to making a positive impact for all stakeholders: workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment. As a member of 1% for the Planet, we donate at least 1% of global revenue to environmental causes.

Things of note

In 2014 KeepCup became one of Australia’s founding B Corps. We are committed to continuously improving our supply chain, upstream waste, and reaching net zero emissions by 2025. For example, we worked with our manufacturers in China to deliver low impact packaging made from 100% cardboard. The new solution is quicker to pack, has removed the need for individual soft plastic sleeves and reduced the total packaging material used.

All waste from our warehouse assembly and customer returns is collected for commercial recycling. In the UK, broken or faulty plastic KeepCup parts are taken to a local processor where they’re pelletised and remoulded into kerbside recycling boxes. We choose local manufacture for local markets, where volumes and production capacity allow.

Transparency

We believe collective individual action is a powerful catalyst for change. Carrying a KeepCup is a signifier of intention of the world we want to live in, so it’s important we represent those values as an organisation. 

We work to create a responsible supply chain and drive positive social and environmental impact upstream and down. This has been the heart of our business from the beginning – from the way we design our products, to our preference for local manufacture and hand-assembly of all KeepCups in our Australian and UK warehouses. Our philosophy is to choose well and buy less – which is why we closely consider best-suited materials and the modularity of our parts. KeepCup components are detachable and replaceable so our customers can replace the part, not the product.

To ensure we’re always considering ways to further lower our impact, our decisions are underpinned by an independent Life Cycle Analysis that compares our products with other reusable and disposable cups to help identify hotspots in our supply chain.

KeepCup is also one of Australia’s founding B Corporations. B Corps are for-profit businesses committed to a new economy that is purpose-driven, with businesses focused on making a positive difference to stakeholders, current and future generations and the natural world. Our B Corp Certification legally binds us to consider and regularly report on our social and environmental impact.

We’ve twice (2018 and 2019) been recognised as B Corp Best for the World Honourees in the Environment Category.

Giving back

We are members of 1% for the Planet and donate at least 1% of total revenue to environmental causes. We’ve donated over $2 million to support organisations on the front line in the fight for a just and biodiverse future, including Sea Shepherd, Plastic Free July, Bush Heritage Australia, Natural Resources Defence Council and Royal Society for Protection of Birds.
