Description

These bowls are made from the shells of coconuts that would otherwise have been discarded as waste. Each shell is sanded and cleaned into a lovely finished shape. We smooth the inside and outside and make our own pure coconut oil at our centre from coconuts in the village that we polish the bowls with. No lacquers, chemicals or anything artificial is used at all. Your bowls are raw and natural with a lovely finish.

These bowls are our standard sized coconut bowls and are perfect for serving & eating your smoothie bowls and nice-creams, curries, buddha bowls, rice dishes, salads and more. Everything tastes better in a coconut bowl! They’re also great for picnics and camping.

We have some jumbo sized versions too. If you’d like one of those and we have them available, please pop your comment in the order notes.

Our small bowl covers fit perfectly over them for keeping goods in the pantry or fridge. Bundles include a cutlery set of coconut wood fork, knife and spoon along with a 100% pure hemp cutlery pouch.

As we keep our bowls very natural, please note that their shapes, sizes and finish may vary slightly per bowl. We do not cut open new coconuts for our bowls – we use only what the community already used first so we don’t impact this at all and create an additional little stream of use for the waste. Each bowl has markings unique to your bowl only!

Size: average approx 11-13cm wide by 5 – 6cm high. Sizes vary due to the nature of the shells.

By purchasing this product you are reducing plastic waste (or resources from additional bowls you may have otherwise purchased), supporting our education and research across the world, providing jobs to vulnerable people in Cambodia in our own little product centre, and helping to support environmentalism & education to kids and communities in Cambodia.

These bowls are designed to last for years but at end of life, this product can simply be returned to the ground in compost or buried.

Our coconut bowls are made at our own little centre supporting ethical labor and a happy workplace in rural Cambodia.

Coconut Bowls
These are made from the discarded shells around our local village that otherwise go to waste.

Coconut Oil
We press our own coconut oil at the centre from local coconut trees. We then use this wonderful oil to polish up our bowls once they have been smoothed.

Coconut wood
Our wooden products are made from ethically sourced coconut wood. When new trees are planted to replace old coconut trees which bear fruit for around 60-80 years, the tree often ends up as waste. Local carpenters and wood workers make our custom items at home from this. The wood is naturally anti-bacterial.

Hemp carry pouch
Your cutlery will arrive in a 100% pure hemp carry pouch. The straw bag can be tied close at the top with 100% hemp twine. Please note that when ordering spoons only, you will not receive a carry pouch.

Label
Our labels were previously made from the off-cuts we save whilst cutting our products so you may receive a product with this. We have since transitioned to 100% cotton labels and now use the off-cuts for other products to retain zero waste.

Included in this item is:

Your selection of coconut bowls or bundle
Wrapped in eco-friendly custom tissue paper printed with vegetable ink & FSC certified
1 x natural swing tag with compostable label & 100% hemp twine

Please note that when ordering spoons only, you will not receive a carry pouch.

Rinse your bowl in cool water before use. Do not use with extremely hot foods. Gentle hand wash with lukewarm natural soap and water. Do not use in the dishwasher, microwave or soak for a long period of time. Polish your coconut bowl with coconut oil (or another oil you’re comfortable with) as often as you like to restore the smooth and shiny finish. We recommend doing so whenever it’s looking dull or every 10 – 12 washes or so (every 2 – 3 months depending on how often they’re used).

All of our packaging is thoughtful and plastic free. Where packages require padding, we use post-consumer, recycled shredded paper. Our tissue paper is custom designed and uses vegetable ink (rather than standard petroleum-based ink). It is acid, lignin and sulfur free and is FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council for sustainable forestry). Please reuse it where possible. Our mailers and envelopes are made from 100% recycled materials. Our thank you cards are made from 100% recycled cotton t-shirts. Our swing tags are made from card that can be recycled. Sleeves are made from 100% recycled stock. Labels are made from sugar cane waste and are compostable. We use paper tape for any additional closures. Please compost and recycle our packaging as appropriate.

At end of life, simply bury them in soil to decompose or break them up and add to your compost. They will biodegrade in landfill.

This item is for our standard coconut bowls. Your coconut bowl may vary in size and style due to the nature of the item. Each bowl is unique!

Made from discarded waste

Coconut shells can be found everywhere we look in Cambodia often burning alongside the road or river or piling up for rubbish collection. Instead of letting them go to waste, we collect them from markets and families which provides a little extra income or rubbish removal and use them to make beautiful bowls!

Plastic free packaging

All of our packaging is plastic free. Your coconut bowls come carefully wrapped in a custom, FSC certified tissue paper for protection.
