Gold in the form of water in the Hinterland

Purlingbrook Falls, Springbrook

My most beloved state & spot in Australia is Queensland. Full of water; crystal clear on the coast, cool and refreshing pouring down the mountains.

Cougal Cascades, Currumbin
Lipp Falls, Beechmont
Good for a swim on a warm day!

Cloud Tent Safari and the Mouses House Retreat are my picks for the forest for a middle-income splurge. Stay as long as you can and soak it all in. Visit all the falls you can hike your way into and light the fire in the evening.

The hikes in the coast aren’t difficult other than some up-and-down mountain fitness; QLD Parks keeps trails amazingly well maintained and they wind themselves neatly through the forest. If you’re a little scared of the snakes like me, stamp your feet a bit on quiet days throughout the week – the red bellied black ones disappear quickly! Tip: wear long socks & trousers to avoid the leeches near water.
