Australia has lost more than 50 animal and 60 plant species

In the past 200 years, Australia has lost more than 50 animal and 60 plant species and records the highest rate of mammalian extinction in the world over that period. There are currently more than 1,700 threatened species and ecological communities in Australia and these need our protection. Habitat destruction is the biggest threat to the extinction of our precious flora and fauna. Climate change, pollution, deforestation, urban development, agriculture and mining have all contributed to this sad reality, and things will likely continue on this path unless enough people like you, who really care, take action now.
