The kangaroo paw

This is the state flora emblem of Western Australia, the iconic red and green kangaroo paw, Anigozanthos manglesii. Bushland around Perth, Western Australia often explodes with color in spring when these species flower, and the displays are particularly abundant following bushfires as the seeds germinate in response to chemical cues found in smoke.
